PKRA Racing Classes
The following is a list of the current classes being raced at PKRA.
Note that you will register for the particular class (left-most and bolded), and not the specific engine. For example Tag100 Senior, Shifter, Kid Kart. If there are differences in weight, they will be marked on your pre-tech tag in pre-tech. Classes may be grouped together as needed, but scoring will be done by class.
Our primary rule set is NKA, but Club rules supersede any other rules. Examples include Tires, Fuel, minimum Weight, and Ages. Engine Manufacturer cover the specifics of each engine (Honda, IAME, Vortex, etc.)
PKRA is using Hoosier tires as the required spec tire beginning with the 2020 Summer Season.
These are currently the most popular classes at PKRA and all are eligible for championships except Kid Karts. To become a championship class, they must average at least 5 entrants per race. Starting in the summer 2021 season, 5 races will be designated as Shifter Championship races. Shifters may enter other races but will be grouped with TAG. See the racing schedule for more details.
CLASSES WITH LIMITED RACE PARTICIPATION
You can participate in club races with karts in any of these classes, but be aware that you may be the only one in that class due to the current lack of popularity. You will be grouped with similar class(es), but scored separately.
** World Formula “Limited” PKRA local classes allow running a Blue Ignition and allow any Drum/Can clutch (as with LO206 rules). All other Briggs World Formula rules are followed.
Minor Age Rules:
- Drivers that become 8, 12, or 16 during the calendar year (aka competition age), have the option to move to the next higher class at any time during that calendar year (aka option year).
- Once a driver moves up to the next higher age class in a PKRA club race cannot move back down to a lower age class within Tag or 4-cycle groupings.
- Parents may pettition to get a waiver to move up early. The process starts by making a request to the board at firstname.lastname@example.org.
- Kid Karts must not be on the track with any other classes. Junior 1’s may be on the track with Junior 2’s, but no other classes.
